Year 2 Blog (8.12.23)

Date: 7th Dec 2023 @ 5:39pm

What a busy week we have had in year 2! We had our first performance of the nativity today to Year 1 and have been rehearsing non stop all week - the children have been working so hard and are very excited for you all to come and watch next week!

During Maths we have been measuring in centimetres and metres and comparing the two. Deciding when it is appropriate to use a ruler, i.e when measuring something smaller like a pencil and when to use a metre stick I.e when measuring a bookcase. For more information on this, please see the home learning tab and this weeks homework reflects this.

In English, we have started our independent write of a postcard from the perspective of Sunny the Meerkat writing home to our family explaining we have finally found the perfect Christmas! The children have been using their writing skills to ensure they've included correct punctuation and some added challenges of using brackets!

Continuing with our topic 'Christmas around the world' , we looked at where Rwanda is and how the people there celebrate Christmas. We were so surprised to find out they have no Christmas trees, no presents and no Christmas dinner! The children then completed a comparing activity looking at the differences between how we celebrate in Formby to those in Rwanda.

We kicked off our DT project this week, designing our Christmas pouches ready to begin sewing next week! We have had some lovely designs of Christmas puddings, reindeer, Christmas trees, baubles and candy canes.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
