Year 2 blog 6.10.23

Date: 6th Oct 2023 @ 3:40pm

This week we have now begun working on adding two numbers with renaming using our column method. This is a very tricky concept for the children to get their heads around and it usually takes a while before it sticks, but the children have been working really hard! Today we also introduced simple subtracting using column method. The children hadn't seen subtracting before in a column method, so automatically thought about addition. We will continue to practice this next week and the children will soon begin to recognise they need to look for the - + sign.

In computing the children have been practising  resizing different images using the computer and also discovered how technology is used in the supermarket. The children pretended to the computer in a till and were scanning barcodes, searching for items in their 'system'  and working out the cost of items to display to the customer.   On Wednesday the children had a whole Art afternoon which they loved. They got super creative drawing leaves with metalic crayons and then using crystal paints to give them an autumn affect. They have come out amazing and are now up for display in our year 2 corridor. In gymnastics this week we were focusing on travelling sideways and created a sequence with a partner which involved balancing, travelling and a roll. History brought us a look at the first ever lifeboat station!

We finished the week with music where the children in groups created a soundscape that represented the seaside, countryside and the city. They used instruments, body and vocal percussion to create different effects.

Have a great weekend,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
