Year 2 blog 24.11.23

Date: 24th Nov 2023 @ 6:32am

This week we have got stuck into the second part of our topic 'Christmas Around the World' looking at how other countries celebrate Christmas. We kicked this off in Australia, and thought about how it would be to spend Christmas on the beach with a bbq! We then compared a British Christmas to a Mexican one and the children had a good go at their first comprehension and then created a fact file with lots of fun facts about Christmas in Mexico. If you have ever celebrated Christmas abroad please do let us know, we'd love to be be able to share this in class.

In Geography we have been looking at the world map and what the equator is and where it is. We then recapped the seven continents and the five oceans and have been labelling our own maps.

During RE we looked at why Mary and Joseph were travelling to Bethlehem and what is a census. We then spoke about the angels role and what their big news was.

In English we have been reading 'Meerkat Christmas' and together we have been writing a postcard from Sunny the Meerkat to his family back home, detailing his journey to find snow and Christmas trees. We have been focusing on using contractions, exclamations and brackets.

Every spare bit of time has been dedicated to our Nativity which is coming along brilliantly! Our stage is up and we have been rehearsing non stop. It was amazing to see how dedicated the children have been to learning their lines and dance routines - well done!

We hope you all have a lovely weekend,

Take care,

The year 2 team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
