Year 2 Blog (22. 10. 21)

Date: 20th Oct 2021 @ 3:05pm

We have had another great final week in school before the half-term break.

The children have another fantastic week practising their artistic skills: building 3D models of homes using different materials, and finishing off their collages which they made with their rubbings last week.  It was lovely to see such a diverse mixture of models which the children created: using their imagination to merticulously design and then make some very interesting structures!  We think there are definitely some future architects in Year 2!

In Maths, the children have continued to consolidate all that they have learned this half-term in maths: practising addition and subtraction and, in particular, thinking carefully about number bonds to 10, and how knowing these number bonds can help with figuring out trickier calculations.

The children have also thought about Formby in comparison with a place in Rwanda called Shyria; these two places are special to us because one is where we live and go to school (Formby), and the other has a church which works closely with St Luke's Church.  The children thought about all the different places in Formby that are special to them and drew some lovely pictures: red squirrels, the pinewoods, the beach and even Subway and 'Marksies'!

In R.E., the children thought about forgiveness and the story of Jonah and the Whale; the children listened to a retelling of the story, watched a short film about it, and then talked about it, retold it in their own words; the children then used a storyboard to tell the story with their own pictures and words: they amazed us all with their lovely drawings and understanding of the story.  Well done!

The children have had another practise with the Speed Stacks

We are all looking forward to half-term break and we hope you all have a restful week; we are so proud of how hard the children have worked and cannot wait to come back to school for a very exciting couple of months that will take us to the Christmas holiday!

Enjoy the break!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
