Year 2 blog (19.10.23)

Date: 19th Oct 2023 @ 4:10pm

Wow, this term has flown by in year 2! We have had a great term in year 2, getting to know the children and watching them settle into their new routines. This week we visited to PDC to learn more about our Judaism topic, it was a great workshop, very hands on and we had a great time listening to people from the Jewish community. We were able to see what a Shabbat table looks like set up, which is something we have been dicussing in class. We played a game a dreidel, which is played during Hannukah, whilst looking what is eaten during Hannukah.. donuts! We were able to see a real menorah, which we had previously drawn pictures of in class, and the children remembered why 8 candles were lit, to remember the miracle that happened when the oil ran out and was meant to only last one day and night, and instead stayed alight for 8 days and 8 nights.

Wednesday was St Luke's day and we walked to church with our buddies for a St Luke's day service, we loved catching up with our buddies, singing some new hymns and listening to reverent Matt's doctor jokes! When we returned from church, we created maps which showed the route we took and everything we passed, which was clearly labelled with our key.

Our final gymnastics lesson this term, we decided to get all the aparaturs out and create a sequence using all the techniques we have been learning this term. The children had to show different ways to travel, balance and jump. The children were able to showcase everything they had been learning and put it into one routine, and they did really well. We have taken a few pictures from gymastics today, so have a look!

We hope you have a wonderful half term break. The children have worked really hard this term, and have settled in really well! We look forward to having a catch up with you all at parents evening.

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
