Year 2 Blog 15.9.23

Date: 14th Sep 2023 @ 8:16pm

We have had a great week in year 2! The children have been busy getting stuck into their new routines and have settled nicely into their new classroom.

We have continued our topic 'Where we live' focusing on the story 'Harry's Home'. The children have written letters this week from the perspective of Harry, writing home to his Mum from his Grandads farm in the countryside. This is the first chunk of writing the children have completed in year 2 and they have worked really hard. We are slowly introducing the children to editing and how to proof read their work themselves and with a friend. We have also continued studying maps and the children have been looking at the United Kingdom map and labelling the different countries and capitals. The children also discovered on the map where Formby was, within the world, continent, country and county.

During Maths we have been continuing to investigate place value, partitioning whole numbers and using our dienes and tens and ones frame. More information on our Maths can be found on the home learning tab, where we advise how you can help at home.

In computing the children learnt information technology is a computer or anything that works with a computer, identified technology within the classroom and discussed uses of technology in school and at home.

During Art this week the children went out around school exploring for materials that could be used to create an art masterpiece. The children played with the objects to create new shapes and patterns on the ground, around branches and on logs. The children were challenged to think how even ordinary things like twigs and pebbles might be interesting when you really look at them.

We have been learning how to travel in a zig zag pathway in gymnastics this week, creating simple routines which include a balance and way of travelling.

We continued looking into the Jewish religion and focused on the mezuzah and why it is important within a Jewish home. We looked at the Shema, the Jewish prayed that is written on a scroll within the mezuzah and discussed what the prayer meant. We then discussed what is important to us within our classroom, how should we behave, how we should treat God, nature and our peers. The children wrote their own beliefs onto paper for us to display in the classroom so they can see it whenever they come in, just like the mezuzah.

Apologises for the lack of photos last week, we were awaiting some permissions, which we now have so uploaded any taken last week to this weeks blog.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
