Year 2 blog 13.10.23

We might not have had the sunshine outside this week but we've had a lovely week inside!

The children have been reading 'The Day the Crayons Quit' over the past two weeks, building up their writing skills ready to write their own persuasive letter. The children independently wrote a letter apologising to the red crayon, asking him to come back and as their first big write piece they did really well. We have been focussing on using capital letters, full stops and spelling our red words correctly. The children have also began learning basic editing skills, being able to check their own work and using a red pen to make corrections.

During computing this week, the children choose a device and created a poster showing everything they could use it for, including the rules for using it safely, looking back at what we have been discussing this term.

On Tuesday it was World Mental Health Day and we spent the afternoon doing mindful activities, such as mindful colouring, making a zen den and thinking about and doing the things we enjoy.

In Art the children took to their sketchbooks and looked at the different techniques we have been practicing over this term, they then used charcoal, pens and pencils to create different leaf affects, we were really impressed with the fine details the children added and the effect they created practising their new sketching skills.

Our last session of music was this week and we finished our term with the children's performances of their soundscapes, giving peer feedback. We visited the city, countryside and seaside in their musical journeys.

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
