Year 2 Blog 08.09.23

Date: 8th Sep 2023 @ 3:51pm

A warm welcome to Year Two! We have had a gorgeous week getting to know your children, hearing about their summer holidays and watching them settle in so beautifully. Moving up to year two can be an exciting challenge and they have all took it in their strides.

This week we have been busy introducing our first topic 'Homes' to the children. We have explored the storybook Harry's Home and made connections between the book and where we live. We have compared the city to the countryside and thought about different adjectives we could use to describe each. During this topic we cover a lot of geography, so we have been focusing on our map reading skills. Some of the children created a map of our classroom with a key, and some of our children enjoyed exploring school with a map.

We have began looking at Who is Jewish and what do they believe in RE and disuccsed precious objects to us that we keep at home, which led onto discovering items that are typically found in a Jewish home.

In Art we researched several artists who are explorers and create art from items they find. The children then sketched various places that they could find materials they could use to create art with.

We are waiting on a few permissions to be updated so unfortunatley we are unable to upload any pictures today. We should be able to upload them on Monday so keep an eye out!

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and the children have had a brilliant week.

Take care,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
