Year 2 Weekly blog 3.3.23

Date: 2nd Mar 2023 @ 3:28pm

What a SUPER week we have had in Year 2!

During Computing, the children discovered how technology is used onboard the ISS to help the astronauts survive. We were all surprised with how the astronauts sleep, eat and get a wash!

During art, the children followed instructions to create brilliant superhero ‘cityscapes’, using a colour wash for the background and then made skyscraper buildings made out of newspaper. They then added twinkly stars and outlined the buildings with black pen to make their shapes stand out.

We had a fun filled World Book Day on Thursday! The children looked amazing dressed as various book characters and thoroughly enjoyed sharing many stories. Excitement filled the air as the children had the opportunity to browse the new ‘mobile library’ with their Year 6 buddies. We also had a visit from the British Transport Police who explained railway safety. The children also designed their own Paschal or ‘Easter’ candles and have begun to explain what the symbols on the candle represent.

During music, the children listened attentively to space themed music and responded by drawing what they could hear and discussed the dynamics, instruments and mood of the music. We have continued to work on the topic of money in maths this week: selecting coins and notes to create amounts, working out totals and working out change too.

Enjoy your weekend,

The Year Two Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
