Year 1 Blog 19.1.24

Date: 19th Jan 2024 @ 4:18pm

Friday 19th January

This week, we continued discussing chronology and the manufacture of different toys. We established that several toys, that are still played with today, were first made in the 1900s, in living memory. LEGO and Monopoly being just two of them. We loved sketching our toys, using the techniques we have been introduced to, and discussing the varied materials they were made from. We also shared the responses, from Home Learning toy questionnaires received. Very enlightening.

It is nearly time for our owls to fly the nest. Soon, they will be winging their way home after the children have reflected and completed their evaluations.

The children also had the opportunity to explore with the Bee-bots, floor robots, and spent time familiarising themselves with the controls. We look forward to learning even more about commands and controlling their movements.

Next Friday, as part of our Toys topic, the children will enjoy ‘Take a Teddy to School Day’. We will discuss the similarities and differences between them and gather relevant language in readiness for our write.

During PE, the children have been expanding their knowledge of different yoga poses and have welcomed the warm up and cool down.

Why not take a look at the photographs capturing our week?

Have a lovely weekend.

The Year One Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
