Year 1 Blog 1.12.23

Date: 1st Dec 2023 @ 3:34pm

Friday 1st December

Thursday was St Andrew’s Day. We spent time learning more about St Andrew, the physical and human features in Scotland and how the day is celebrated. COP28 also commenced, on Thursday, and we began our discussions about its purpose and what climate change is.

Our puppet project continues and we have completed our designs and selected our materials. Next week, we look forward to making our puppets.

Our classrooms have begun to twinkle and sparkle as we begin our Christmas preparations. We have been sharing the Christmas Story and thinking about the meaning of Christmas. This year, Year 1 will retell the Christmas Story during each church service. The children have been learning more about this, today, and we will return to it next week. A separate Spider message will be sent to you giving further details about it.

Please ensure your child has their book bag, reading record and reading books in daily. Also, that they have a water bottle with a sports cap. As mentioned previously, your child is welcome to bring in a piece of fruit or vegetables for their morning snack. Precious hats, gloves and scarves require name labels please , to ensure they are returned to their owners.

Have a lovely weekend.

Many thanks for your continued support.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
