Y6 Weekly Blog (12. 10. 18)

Date: 12th Oct 2018 @ 5:11pm

In our penultimate week before our half-term break (where has the time gone?), Year 6 have enjoyed a wide range of different learning opportunities. We have nearly finalised our Mind, Body and Soul – Fit for Life booklets and they are looking brilliant. The children even enjoyed some meditation during the discussion of what a healthy soul could comprise of, so please don’t be alarmed if you have found them at home being suspiciously quiet in the ‘lotus position.’

We have continued our learning around long, formal-methods of division and the children have really started to crack this nut. We will continue to revisit this and the other core operations throughout the year, but the progress they have made so far has put them in good standing for the rest of Year 6.

In the slow build-up towards our Year 6 Remembrance service, the children have started making some beautiful clay poppies for display in the local Methodist church. Once completed, these will be up inside the church for you and your children to view, alongside some other Remembrance compositions from the children.

Our Superstars this week are Evan (6G) and Connor (6WD). Congratulations boys. Keep up this wonderful effort into our final week of the half-term and beyond.

There are no spellings going home this week. Year 6 are re-evaluating the spellings that come home weekly and over the course of each half-term. Instead, we have provided the statutory Year 5 and 6 spelling words. Please go through this list with your child as the year progresses – you could do this in a ‘dictation’ or ‘4-in-a-row’ format that the children are familiar with from school. Next week, the children will be quizzed on 20 random spellings, in addition to other assessments which are ongoing in order to inform teacher-assessments.
