What a great first week back. The children have come back after the summer break with enthusiasm and have settled back to school life well. We have started our topic on the Maya and discovered where the Maya lived. We have spent a great deal of the week looking at our PSHE focus on Fairtrade and learning about the benefits to Fairtrade farmers - especially pulling them out of poverty. The overview of the half term is on the class page for you to see.

This week we have introduced tall desks to our Key Stage 2 classrooms so the children can choose to sit or stand as they work.  Research indicates there are multiple benefits to standing to work, including:improved focus and concentration due to micro-movements allowing energies to be directed into learning rather than than seeking broader movement;increased levels of alert, both during and after standing to work;reduced risk of obesity; improved mental health linked to positive endorphins being stimulated by exercise;better posture and spine/shoulder alignment. The children will all have opportunities to explore how they work best given the benefits are universal; ample space for seated work will continue to be availableand the children who have tried them have loved them. We think we may have to add more in 5H.

A small plea that if your child does not have a white board pen in their pencil case, could you please add one as soon as you can.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
