This week we have had a real science focus. Children learnt all about day and night, using torches and tennis balls to investigate. They even watched the Earth rotating from the ISS (International space Station) to proove that it isn't the sun that moves across the sky but the Earth rotating on its axis. The children then wrote fantastic, clear explanations, with labelled diagrams, to show their understanding of this tricky concept.

In computing, they learnt how the Mars Rover communicated with Earth via satelittes using binary code. They all managed to solve some binary code  problems.

In maths we have been multiplying 3 and 4 digit numbers by 1: e.g. 5764 x 3. We used lots of different methods. Maths home learning this week is related to this. Next week we move onto 2 digit x 2 digit e.g. 45 x 37.

We were so lucky today, to observe our 1 minute silence as part of a fantastic remembrance service led by our Year 6 pupils. The children showed such respect during the service, so much so that Mr Green gave each class a golden ticket. Lucy M and Ben W represented St Luke's exceptionally, when they went with Mrs Cowey to the Formby cenotaph for the 11 oclock service.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
