Thank you to everyone who attended our virtual Welcome to Year 5 meeting last night. For those that could not attend, the recording has been posted on the 5J / 5L Google Classroom chat.

This week has been another exciting week in Year 5. In maths we have been adding and subtracting large numbers mentally by using rounding and organising with great success. Yesterday we even had a pretend visit to McDonalds in Indonesea to work out the total costs of various saver meal orders (in Rupiah).

In English, we have been looking at how awful instructions lead to bad mistakes when making something. The instructions for Maya hot chocolate led to some terrible mistakes, including poor Mr Hardman and Mrs Harper tasing cold water with chocolate cubes in and half a jar of chilli powder. Luckily, by the time we had written clear and concise instructions, the drink was much nicer when we tried it - even though it still had chilli powder and cinnamon in it.

We are continuing to learn our brass instrument and this week's music to practice is on the handout from last week, but the newest piece is with the homework on the website.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
