Y2 weekly blog 19.1.24

Date: 16th Jan 2024 @ 6:46pm

This week in Year 2, we have been continuing our 'Once upon a time' topic, really delving into traditional tales and the wonder of books. During English we have been writing the story of 'Little Red Reading Hood' with a grammar focus on commas in a list, complex sentences and repetition. The children have been coming up with some amazing vocabulary and really pushing their imagination. As part of our English, we visited to library on Tuesday as an experience day. Whilst writing our stories, we are detailing the layout of a library, type of books we would find and how it's organised, so the children had some great ideas after their visit. The trip was a great success and the children had a wonderful time exploring the library and reading through the different books. We were delighted to see the amount of children that had signed up to the library and were able to take books home. A love of reading is a wonderful thing!

In Maths we have been reading and understanding picture graphs and this had conencided with our computing where we also made picture graphs on the computing. For more information on Maths, please see the home learning tab.

This week in RE, we have continued learning about Muslims, focusing on who the Prophet Muhammed is and why is he so important. The children heard one of his stories, of him looking after a sick cat, cutting on his finest robe to give the cat the comfort he needed to heal. We spoke about how this story suggests how we should treat other people and the children then retold the story on their own storyboard.

During gymnastics the children have been creating a routine full of balances and twists. They had to practise and think about how they could twist from balance to balance and hold their balances.

This term in Art we are exploring monoprinting and the children this week spent time sketching, using different techniques to create texture. We were so impressed with the standard of work produced. The children really took their time, applying their creativity to create beautiful sketches.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend and keep wrapped up warm!

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
