We've had a full packed week in year 2! The children have been working really hard whilst we are nearing the end of this term.

In English, the children have finished their modelled write and have begun planning their own stories ready for their independent write next week. They have been gathering ideas for whom their main character will be, who their villian will be and what the twist in their tale with be. We have loved this term on English, the children have been expanding their vocabulary and producing brilliant ideas. Instead of Little Red Reading Hood, we are looking forward fo reading the stories of Little Blue Raincoat, The Gingerbread Boy and Puss in Trainers.

We have continued learning about fractions this week, focusing on how to work out what 1/2, 1/4 and 1/3 of a number would be. The children have been using peas on a plate and bar models to help them work these out. We have sent home a fractions worksheet for homework to help reinforce our learning and uploaded some fraction assignments onto doodle. Please check out the home learning tab for more information on this.

We are doing target games in outdoor PE and the children have been working on how to aim a ball through a hoop and how to throw to their partner accurately.

In Music we have continued looking at traditional tales and the children have been introduced to tempo, timbre and dynamics. They were given a storyboard in groups of Little Red Riding Hood and asked to produce the background music for each scene, looking and what instruments would be appropriate for each character and when to change the tempo, dynamics and timbre of each instrument to represent each scene.

We have started our DT project of making Baby Bear's chair and the children have been testing different 3D shapes to determine which is better structurally to hold Baby Bear. We experimented by making a triangular prism, cylinder and cuboid and seeing how many books each could hold. The cyclinder won with 71 books! The children practised recording the results of these experiments and are now ready to design and make their own chair next week. If you have yet to bring into any recycled rubbish there is still time!

We had a lovely Art afternoon on Wednesday, the children were asking prior what animal best represents their personalities and then we gave them a variety of images of these animals. They then traced the animals and added extra detail for texture and the images produced were wonderful. We are really exciting to see their final pieces next week.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend,

Take care,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
