What a wonderful, busy week we have had!

On Monday, the children were excited to begin our new computing unit 'Robot Algorithms'. They learnt that an algorithm is a set of instructions and began creating clear instructions to guide their 'robot partner' around the room. They are keen to start using the Beebots next week! On Monday afternoon, we also began to consider structures during DT, selecting the most stable structure for Baby Bear's chair. Most children decided a three- legged stool was much more stable than a yoga ball and were able to explain their reasons why.

This week, the children have loved delving deeper into our story 'Little Red Reading Hood'. On Tuesday, we took a trip into the woods to explore the woodland using our senses. The children thought of great adjectives to describe the woods and tried their best to use alliteration such as scrambling squirrels and towering trees. The descriptive sentences that the children wrote following our experience to the woods were 'incredibly impressive'.

Wednesday brought the excitement of Golden Ticket Celebrations for both classes. 2M made cosy dens for their teddy bears and friends and enjoyed watching a movie and 2GN had lots of fun playing with their toys that they had brought in. We also watched a video story which discussed the important topic of railway safety.

On Thursday, the children demonstrated control perfoming sequences including lots of twists and rolls during gymnastics lessons. Ask the children to show you their favourite roll and twist! They also carefully considered their reflections of 'what do people think about God' and created art work to portray God. Lots of children drew hearts to represent that God is in our hearts, some children drew the World to reflect that God is everywhere and some children drew waterfalls and their favourite things to show that God is in our positive thoughts.

On Friday, the children became familiar with the different instruments and 'groups' of instruments e.g. brass, string, percussion and woodwind. The children listened to various pieces of music and selected the different instruments that they could hear and began to sort instruments into their different groups.

During maths lessons, we continued our topic of measure including mass and temperature. We also began to learn how data is gathered and presentend in pictograms and used the information presented in the pictograms to answer questions. Take a look at the Home Learning page for more information about our maths learning this week.

Reminder: trip to Formby library on Tuesday afternoon. If you would like your child to bring books home from the library, send them into school with their library card on Tuesday, or return the 'class visit' form to the library or to school on Monday and the library staff will get library cards ready in advance of our visit.

Have a great weekend!

The Year Two Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
