Y1 Weekly Blog 3.3.23

Date: 3rd Mar 2023 @ 2:19pm

                                 Friday 3rd March

This week, in maths, the children enjoyed their investigations around measuring, using vocabulary such as tall/taller/tallest short/shorter/shortest, long, longer, longest. We know they will enjoy their further investigations at home.

Our new art topic explored  ‘What can watercolours do?’ and we took a look at the work of artists Paul Klee and Emma Burleigh.

We continued developing our skills in our golf unit, playing a variety of team games.

On Wednesday, the 1st March, we looked at how St. David’s Day is celebrated in Wales, his life, traditions and special geographical features of the country.

We celebrated World Book Day on Thursday and had fun dressing up as our favourite book characters – see which ones you can recognise on our photos! Our ‘Milk and Cookies’ evening continued the fun and some of the children came back to school in their outfits or their PJs for some bedtime stories.

Next week sees the start of this half-term’s DT project ‘Moving Pictures’…

Mr. Ryan will continue to be working with 1.P, until Mrs. Page’s return  and Miss O’Neill will be in 1.FO’N every day next week,

Have a lovely weekend.

The Year One Team

P.S. We will be having our annual ‘Y1 dress up ‘ Pirate Day’ in a few weeks, date to be confirmed!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
