Reception Weekly Blog week ending Friday 14th May 2021

Date: 14th May 2021 @ 2:59pm

Week ending Friday 14th May 2021

What a ‘Royal’ week we have had! The children have imagined they are true kings, queens, princes and princesses, inviting others to the royal ball, and have written super invitations. In our PE session the children have danced as though they have been at a royal ball, wearing their own crowns and tiara creations.

Inspired by the thunderstorm in the story of the ‘Princess and the Pea’ the children have explored the musical instruments in the ROLA to make thunder and rain percussion- you may have heard them! They have also used body percussion to make the sounds of thunder and rain using their fingers, hands and feet, singing along to the rhyme ‘I hear thunder’ and learning some sign language.

We have been measuring length again too, and this week have made ramps to roll down peas (green balls) and measure how far they rolled.

We have also had some special visitors in Reception this week – snails! We have talked about the habitat of a snail, and why they like to come out of their dark, damp habitat after the rain. We’ve had snail races and measured their silvery, slimy trail, using string.

Why don’t you see if you can find some snails outdoors this weekend? Ask your child to be a snail expert and tell you all about them!

Have a lovely weekend.

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
