Rocking and rolling in Reception!

On Monday, our weaving adventure came to a close as the children celebrated their treasured bookmarks, which they had created. The children have loved engaging in this hands-on activity, developing their fine motor skills as they coordinated their threading movements to carefully create patterns and designs.

What an electrifying day we had on Tuesday as we turned up the volume and embraced our inner rockstars to welcome some very special guests—the awesome Rock Kidz! We sang songs about self-confidence, danced like nobody was watching, and celebrated our uniqueness and individuality.

In Maths this week, we counted, grouped, and explored different ways to represent number 16 using hops, jumps, steps, claps, and objects from around the room! The children are growing in confidence in noticing differences and similarities when comparing quantities. To develop this skill, we are encouraging the children to use mathematical language such as 'more than’, ‘less than', and ‘equal to’ to describe the relationship between numbers. When children have a secure understanding of how to compare quantities, they will be able to order amounts in Year One more easily! A simple, quick game of ‘more or fewer’ using any small objects at home will further embed this crucial skill for your child.

Over the past few weeks, we have been closely monitoring each child’s progress in phonics and have arranged the children into new phonics groups. You may notice that your child is bringing home the same reading book more than once, and we want to assure you that this repetition is intentional and an important aspect of developing fluency and confidence. Revisiting familiar texts allows children to focus on decoding words, understanding the text, and developing comprehension skills. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s reading progress, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We are here to support you and your child every step of the way.

The big day was finally here on Friday, and our Reception stars took centre stage! We are so proud of all of the Reception children for throwing themselves into learning new and exciting performing art skills this term. From captivating songs to delightful dances, our little stars illuminated the room with their confidence, enthusiasm, and boundless energy. Well done, Reception!

We wave goodbye to our fabulous trainee teacher Miss Blundy today, the children have absolutely loved every second of learning with Miss Blundy, and we all wish her the very best and every success going forward.

Enjoy a well-earned rest this half-term, everybody! See you back in school on Monday, 19th February.

The Reception team 🙂

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
