Reception Weekly Blog (9.10.20)

Date: 9th Oct 2020 @ 3:15pm

This week our activities have been inspired by harvest and the story ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ by Vivian French.

We have talked to the children about and sorted vegetables that grow above and below the ground; the children have used vegetables and paint to print a repeating pattern; they have re-told the story of ‘Oliver’s vegetables’ in role play and have been for a vegetable hunt around the ROLA; each child helped to prepare the vegetables to make vegetable soup. We talked about how healthy vegetables are, and everyone had a try of the delicious soup, with many children asking for a second helping!

We have started to explore number 3 this week, we have loved learning about triangles. See if you can find some number 3’s and triangles at home. We would love to hear about it on a ‘Good News’ slip.

As we continue to learn our Set 1 speed sounds, please ensure children are regularly practising the ones we have learnt so far at home. Being able to recognise the pure sound of ‘m,a,s,d,t,i,n will really help when we start to blend these sounds for reading. If you are unsure of the correct pronunciation of each sound take a look on the Reception page for video guidance. Many thanks for your support.

We are looking forward to learning all about farming next week with a focus on the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’

Take a look with your child/ren at the selection of photographs we have put on, of the first weeks in school.

Enjoy your weekend 😊

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
