Exploring the magic of books

What an exciting week it has been for our Reception superstars as we celebrated storytelling through theatre and costume! A huge round of applause to our incredible children for their outstanding behaviour on our unforgettable trip to the Atkinson Theatre. They all listened attentively to the performance and engaged enthusiastically with the actors, even after an unforeseen delay, meaning the show didn’t quite start on time! Our youngest stars demonstrated extraordinary patience, and we couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of them.

The theatre was a wonderful way to kickstart our World Book Day festivities on Thursday, setting the stage for a day filled with imagination. Our school came to life with an array of beloved characters, from heroes to heroines, witches to wizards, and creatures of every kind, which transported us all to far-off lands. Our star bakers even whipped up scrumptious ‘knobbly knee’ cornflake cakes inspired by none other than The Gruffalo himself! Thank you to our wonderful families for nurturing a love of reading at home. Don’t forget to swap your World Book Day £1 token for a free book at Tesco, Sainsburys, or Asda before 31st March 2024. If you have misplaced your child’s token, you can download a digital version here: https://www.worldbookday.com/digital-tokens/ Happy reading!

In the midst of all of the literacy excitement, our little mathematicians have been busy exploring the number 19 this week, along with continuing to recall equal numbers as doubles. We used our knowledge of doubles to explore which Numberblocks characters were even numbers and which were odd. The children are working hard at being able to quickly identify which Numberblocks can be composed as two equal parts and using brilliant mathematical language such as ‘double’ to sort numbers into groups.

In RE, we are continuing to learn all about the Christian Holy Week of Easter. This week, we focused on the story of The Last Supper, where Jesus washed the feet of his disciples to demonstrate the importance of caring for one another. To help children connect to the story in a meaningful way, we set up a washstation, where each child washed the hands of a friend, whilst discussing how we can show kindness in simple ways. We learned that acts of kindness, no matter how small, can make a big difference to those around us.

Without further ado, and after much deliberation between our young animal enthusiasts, the children have chosen the perfect names for our cherished gerbils. Introducing ‘Saint’ and ‘Luke’. We think their names are just perfect!

Another wonderful week ahead as we look forward to celebrating Science Week with special visitors Boo’s Zoo on Wednesday and the Silly Science team on Thursday. We will explore fascinating creatures, learn all about conservation, and discover wacky and wonderful experiments, topped off with an extra dose of fundraising joy as we wear red mufti to celebrate Red Nose Day on Friday!

Have a fantastic weekend, everybody.

The Reception Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
