Reception Weekly Blog 8.10.21

Date: 8th Oct 2021 @ 3:59pm

This week our activities have been inspired by the Harvest Festival and the story ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ by Vivian French.

We have talked with the children about lots of different vegetables, we even sorted them into the groups that grow above and below the ground. On Tuesday each of the children helped to prepare the vegetables to make vegetable soup, they used lots of words to describe how the veg felt and smelt. We talked about how healthy vegetables are, and most of the children had a try of the delicious soup, with many children asking for a second helping! The children have used the vegetables that were left from making our soup to print repeating patters, they dipped carrots (circles) and potatoes (semi circles) into paint.

We have started to explore number 2 this week, we have loved learning about semi circles, time and money. See if you can find some number 2’s and semi circles at home. We would love to hear about it on a ‘Good News’ slip. Today, you will find 1.1. green words in your child's book bag, spend some time together pointing to each sound and blending the sounds together.

On Thursday it was National Poetry Day, the children had a lovely afternoon exploring lots of words that rhyme and even created their own poem.

RH:
Leaves falling to the ground,

Leaves are golden, yellow and brown,

Birds flying in the sky,

Vegetable soup for you and I.

RP:

Autumn leaves are falling to the ground,

Can you hear the sound?

Birds are flying in the sky,

Vegetable soup for you and I.

We are looking forward to learning all about farming next week with a focus on the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’.

We can’t wait to see you at our Open Afternoon on Thursday!

Have a great weekend everyone,
The Reception Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
