Reception Weekly Blog (6.1.23)

Date: 5th Jan 2023 @ 9:38pm

Wow – what a brilliant first week back it has been!

The children arrived back at school refreshed and ready to start what is going to be another very busy, fun-filled half term.

When we returned to school on Tuesday we enjoyed sharing our holiday news, the children were eager to share all of their lovely experiences from the festive period. We spoke about how fortunate we have been and how lucky we are. It was pleasing to see the children remember how to use their ‘Fred fingers’ and phonic knowledge to write about their favourite part.

We now have new English groups based on our latest phonic assessment prior to the Christmas holidays. Keep checking your child’s book bag for new books and ditty sheets. Please also be reminded how important it is to write a small comment in reading records, we love to hear how reading is progressing at home.

We introduced the children to our new theme for RE during the first half of the Spring term; special places. The children have thoroughly enjoyed discussing all the places that are special to them and listening to the thoughts of their peers.

Our PE days remain the same for Spring term, which meant outdoor games resumed on Thursday. Our first session was learning to aim at a target, the children were so keen to put what they had learnt into practice. We focussed on our underarm throw this week and how we should stand to get the most effective aim.

Next week, we look forward to exploring number 9 further and start sharing traditional tales with the children and the alternative version we may have seen, heard and read at home. We will start with Goldilocks and The Three Bears and talk about New Years Resolutions. If your child has a version they would like to share with the class, feel free to bring it in next week.

We can’t wait to start listening to and learning the songs for the Reception performance to parents and carers due to take place on Friday 10th February 2023 in the school hall. Miss Hesketh and Miss Pooley will send out more information for you via School Spider.

Have a restful weekend everyone,

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
