Reception Weekly Blog 4.3.22

Wow! What a fantastic week in Reception!

On Monday, we started to look at all things Number 13. We learnt that 13 is made up of thirteen ones or one ten and three ones. A great way to support your child at home is to gather 13 objects and group ten into a pile. Practise counting on from ten to see how many there are.

Go Outside Formby kindly supported our ongoing ROLA repairs fund by spending a fantastic morning with the children on the inflatable assault course! Please don’t forget to share/donate to the Rocket Fund to help repair our loved ROLA. We hope to start work over Easter so our current Reception children can be the first to enjoy the new space. https://www.rocketfund.org/p/repair-the-rola

During our RE sessions we have been learning about the significance of Shrove Tuesday. This lead us on to instruction writing and following recipes to make delicious pancakes! The children really enjoyed wearing a traditional Chef’s hat, flipping the pancakes and most of all – eating them!

On Ash Wednesday the children discussed the many different things they would give up throughout the 40 days of Lent. This year, in keeping with our Reception Christian value of kindness, we thought we would carry out one act of kindness each day instead. The children have been fantastic at caring for each other and being thoughtful.

It was also World Book Day on Thursday, the children each shared a loved story with a friend and also took part in a whole school book review. What a great way to celebrate our love for reading!

A big thank you to everyone who has sent in bottle tops as part of our whole school art project. The children have developed a great interest in the impact of plastic pollution on the environment and we will be extending their learning next week by looking at the powerful story ‘Somebody Swallowed Stanley’ by Sarah Roberts.

We are looking forward to seeing you at Parents Evening on Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 16th March. Please be reminded that each appointment will last 10 minutes.

We can’t wait for another busy week with you, have a fantastic weekend everyone!

The Reception Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
