Reception Weekly Blog 29.4.22

Date: 29th Apr 2022 @ 1:13pm

Another busy week in Reception!

The children arrived at school on Monday eager and ready for the week ahead, which was lovely to see.

We started our learning by talking to the children about ‘St. George’s Day’ which is celebrated in April, we spoke about St. George devoting his life to the Christian faith, by showing kindness and helping others. The children were keen to learn the legend that St. George slayed a dragon. We continued our learning through our play by designing our own dragons and creating coats of armour, shields and flags.

We continued learning about the teen numbers this week by introducing the children to number 18 using the ‘Numberblocks’, the children saw the character split in half, in 1’s, 2’s and 3’s! We had some really nice opportunities this week to count accurately to 20 and beyond. The children worked together to help our muddled-up class mascots to come up with ‘counting rules’, it was decided that we should count one by one, touching one thing before moving to the next as well as counting slowly and sensibly.

On Tuesday the children read the story ‘Supertato’, they spent some time talking about vegetables, trying very hard to remember what vegetables grow above and below the ground. The children then helped plant seed potatoes in the ROLA, we did this in our rainbow rows and look forward to seeing which lines’ bag grows the most.

Continuing the theme of growing, our tadpoles are making great progress! We have cleaned the water this week and split the tadpoles into two separate spaces so they have more room to wiggle. The children excitedly feed them and check them daily, we are patiently waiting for signs that they are growing legs!

We look forward to more planting and growing next week when we explore two of our favourite ‘growing’ books; The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle and Ten Seeds by Ruth Brown. We will be planting sunflower seeds and choosing the best location for them to grow, we look forward to taking them home to plant in our own gardens once they have been looked after at school.

As the weather becomes warmer, we are ensuring the children wear their school sun hats when out in the playground, and making sure they have plenty of water to drink. If and when required, please apply sun cream on your child prior to coming to school.

Polite reminders:

  • Please provide your child with a named water bottle with a sports cap, to avoid spillages.
  • Please do not put water bottles into your child’s reading folder, this prevents spillages and any books getting damaged.
  • All clothing needs to be labelled, including games kit.

We hope you have a lovely bank holiday weekend, see you on Tuesday.

The Reception Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
