Reception Weekly Blog (28.4.23)

Date: 28th Apr 2023 @ 1:45pm

Another busy week in Reception!

The children arrived at school on Monday eager and ready for the week ahead, which was lovely to see.

In maths, we continued learning about the teen numbers this week. We had lots of opportunities to count accurately to 20 and beyond. The children worked together to help our muddled-up class mascots to come up with ‘counting rules’, it was decided that we should count one by one, touching one thing before moving to the next as well as counting slowly and sensibly.

Our summer term RE unit begins with a focus on the natural world. On Monday, the children made the most of the warm afternoon sun and took part in a listening walk outside, trying very hard to describe the natural sounds they could hear. The children then closed their eyes for a moment, and listened to ‘nature’s symphony’. Next week we will extend our learning by discussing how nature makes us feel, and exploring the question ‘who do you think made all of this nature?’.

Continuing our theme of growing, our tadpoles are making great progress! The children excitedly watch them wiggle daily, we are patiently waiting for signs that they are growing legs!

On Wednesday, Reception took part in our whole school Orienteering enrichment day. The children had so much fun with their Year 4 buddies, whilst exploring initial map reading skills, and developing their teamwork and leadership qualities.

We look forward to more planting and growing next week when we explore one of our favourite ‘growing’ books; The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle. The children have each planted a seed into their own unique greenhouses, made from cardboard, sandwich bags and damp cotton wool. We look forward to watching them germinate, then taking them home to plant in our own gardens once they have been looked after at school.

As the weather becomes warmer, we are ensuring the children wear their St. Luke’s sun hats when out in the playground, and making sure they have plenty of water to drink. If and when required, please apply sun cream on your child prior to coming to school.

Polite reminders:

  • Please provide your child with a named water bottle each day. These are taken onto the big playground during lunchtime play, so children can freely access water if needed.
  • Please do not put water bottles into your child’s reading folder, this prevents spillages and any books getting damaged.
  • All clothing needs to be labelled, including indoor PE kit.

We hope you have a lovely bank holiday weekend, see you on Wednesday.

The Reception Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
