Reception Weekly Blog (24.3.23)

Date: 24th Mar 2023 @ 2:25pm

We’ve had great fun this week in Reception!

This week, we have introduced our new topic ‘people who help us’. The children have really enjoyed learning about all of the different roles in our community, and were so excited to have visitors come in and talk about their jobs. A huge thank you to the wonderful Police Officer and Children’s Nurse who gave up their time to talk to the children. The children all had brilliant questions and even got to carefully handle some of the equipment!

In Maths, we are deepening our understanding of numbers 0 – 15: exploring 10 frames, dienes (small cubes), and number bonds to 10! The children are becoming more skilled in understanding the full 10s and the part of a 10, for example 15 is one full ten and five ones. Next term, we will continue to practice and consolidate these key skills by introducing bead strings and Rekenreks (counting frames)!

In our English sessions we are continuing to blend sounds together into buildable words. Practice, practice, practice at home makes such a huge difference. One way you can help your child at home is by using just the speech sounds, and then asking your child to work out and say the whole word. For example: ‘Today we are going to the /sh/ /o/ /p/’.

Now that the children are exploring the large playground during their lunchtime breaks, they are each able to bring in a small playground toy. We always say nothing too special, in case it gets lost or broken, and small enough to fit inside a pocket!

A polite reminder: if you have any Read, Write, Inc story books or purple sound-blending books which have been read and need to be returned, please could you send them back in to school in your child’s book bag, thank you.

Thank you so much for attending parent’s evenings appointments over the past month. It has been lovely to have the chance to talk about how hard the children are working, and the progress they are making.

Next week we look forward to watching our super talented Year five friends in their performance of ‘Star Warts’, as well as walking alongside our Year four buddies to Church on Wednesday for an Easter service led by Rev. Matt and Year four.

We hope you have a fabulous weekend! We would love to hear all about it, you can always e-mail reception@slf.sefton.school and we will share your child's good news with their class.

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
