Reception Weekly Blog (24.2.22)

Date: 24th Feb 2023 @ 3:56pm

Welcome back, everyone!

We are so, so, so, so proud of each and every one of Reception who shone like super stars in our whole class performance of ‘Hat’s Off!’ on our last day of term.

We hope you enjoy looking through lots of the photographs below. Thank you all for your continued support and it was lovely to see so many of you there.

The children have returned refreshed after the half term holiday and were excited to share their good new with the class on Monday.

Towards the end of last term, we re-assessed our children in English, and now have four new groups, each group will be led by a member of the Reception team. We have learned all set 1 sounds, so please keep revisiting the sheets sent home previously, as well as your child’s pack of speed sounds cards to gain speedy recall. It is also really important to regularly check your child’s book bag for books and other important information.

This week, we introduced our new topic ‘Out of this World’, and the children have shown a fantastic enthusiasm for all things Space! We have also looked at number 11, using the ‘Numberblocks’ for inspiration. The children have enjoyed making 11 using ‘ten’ and ‘one more’, looking at 11 on tens frames and finding 11 in their environment.

On Shrove Tuesday, we read the story ‘Mr. Wolf’s Pancakes’ and made/flipped our very own pancakes. We spoke about Lent in the Christian calendar and what sort of things people might give up.

A huge thank you to all who have donated ‘junk’ for our junk modelling project this term. Please continue to send in anything you can: plastic bottles, bottle tops, cardboard boxes, kitchen roll tubes, foil trays etc as the children have already drawn up intricate designs for their ‘space vehicle’ DT projects. It is wonderful to watch the creativity flourish!

Next week, we look forward to learning more about Space, number 12 and dressing up as our favourite storybook character for World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March.

Have a great weekend everybody,

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
