Reception Weekly Blog (23.09.22)

Date: 23rd Sep 2022 @ 3:16pm

We have had another great week in Reception!
The children arrived refreshed on Tuesday and continued to settle into their new routines, they are beginning to learn everyone’s name- which is a difficult task!

We have continued learning all about elephants this week and the children have created their very own African elephant, learning what happens when we mix black and white paint, the children are excited to add extra details once it is dry.

We have started learning our individual sounds – look out for the sheets in your child’s book bag! These can be practised and kept at home. We have attached the letter formation phrases below.

Your child chose their first reading book today, please take some time to share this story together and record a comment in their reading record. Books will be changed each Friday, there is a letter with more information on in your child’s reading folder.

We would like you to take a look at this video https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/qLVQd2OH/ViOD6Zhd which demonstrates how to say the sounds correctly. If you have purchased RWI speed sound cards on ‘School Spider’ your child will have brought home their first pack today. For now, please only practise the sounds we have sent home to avoid any confusion.

We are holding an information afternoon at school next Tuesday (27th September 2:30-3pm) all about Read, Write, Inc. It would be nice to see you there if you can make it, please don’t worry if you can’t be there will be another opportunity to see phonics in action, in January.

Don’t forget about the Reception Open Afternoon on Thursday 29th September 2-3pm, the children can’t wait to show you around their lovely learning space, they are also free to leave with you after.

You may have seen a ‘Caulicard’ submission in your child’s book bag, please design your own Christmas card at home and return to school by 7th October.

We can’t wait for another busy week!

Have a fantastic weekend everyone, don’t forget about the ‘good news’ slips in your child’s book bag.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
