Plastic superheroes and pyjama party fun!

What an incredible week it has been in Reception as we embarked on another whirlwind of adventures. Following the lead of this week’s focus children, we soared through the skies as superheroes, tackling plastic pollution, before snuggling up for a cozy Pyjama Day celebration!

Following on from our learning during Science Week, where we explored the wonders of the natural world, this week we have shone the spotlight on a pressing global issue: plastic pollution. Thank you to those who submitted your plastic tally over the weekend! The children loved discussing which items around their homes were made of plastic, and which of those could be recycled. We even embraced the roles of Plastic Superheros to save the planet, as each child created a poster to describe their unique superpower as they tackle the impact of plastic pollution. Whether it’s litter picking at the beach or recycling at home, our little heroes are leading the way in sustainable action.

On Thursday, Reception enjoyed a deliciously delightful Pyjama Day as we celebrated an amazing Golden Ticket achievement! Armed with icing, sprinkles and marshmallows, every child was a star baker as they transformed biscuits into mini works of art! The biscuits provided the perfect accompaniment to our cozy celebration, as the children curled up to enjoy a film together in the afternoon.

We have exciting findings to share from our Bread experiment! After a whole week, the slice of bread that was handled by unclean hands, has undergone a significant change, and is now completely covered in green mould! In contrast, the slice of bread that was handled by clean hands, shows minimal signs of mould, sparking engaging discussions between the children each morning as they arrived to observe the changes and also serving as a powerful reminder to wash our hands!

Keep an eye out for communication from the Reception team in your child’s book bag. This week, you will find two sheets of green words. Green words are a valuable tool for helping children to develop their skills in reading as they require children to decode words using their knowledge of letter sounds. Have fun with the green words by turning them into a game! You could play “Green Word bingo” by ‘Fred Talking’ a word and asking your child to place a small toy/item on top of the word. Keep going until all words are covered, and your child can shout ‘Bingo!’

Next week, we look forward to our visit to Church on Wednesday, as well as exploring more of our natural world, with an exciting opportunity for our Reception children to observe real frogspawn up close! Thank you to one of our wonderful families who have kindly donated the frogspawn to our school. Our Reception children are becoming experts at taking care of living things, and we can’t wait to observe the transformations that occur as we delve into the fascinating topic of life cycles with our budding scientists!

Enjoy a wonderful spring weekend, everyone.

The Reception Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
