Reception Weekly Blog (2.2.24)

Date: 2nd Feb 2024 @ 4:07pm

Showtime is nearly here!

The stage is set and the children have been working hard this week rehearsing for our show all about the seasons!  We can’t wait for you to see it!

The children have been using their creative skills again and have been making their bookmark designs a reality.  The children have enjoyed weaving and sewing and seeing their designs come to life.

We continued our love of books by sharing lots of stories that the children have brought in for us to enjoy.  We focussed on a story ‘The Koala Who Could’ all about Kevin the Koala.  This took us on a journey to the other side of the world – Australia!  We have learnt so much about Australia – where it is in the world, how we would get there, the weather and the seasons.  We even discussed how when we are coming to school, the children in Australia are getting ready for bed!  Our new knowledge of Australian animals led us to some creations as well – we have had lots of little koalas in reception after they made their own masks!

It was our green row’s turn to be bakers this week!  They made us some yummy banana oat cookies which we ate while we listened to a story – delicious!

In RE this week, we have been looking at the similarities and differences between holy buildings.  We looked at pictures of the buildings and discussed the different features we could see.  The children then used this knowledge to construct their own holy building.  Some children created churches and some created mosques – all of the buildings were fabulous!

Before we knew it, it was Friday and we celebrated number day!  We have loved seeing the children’s fabulous outfits!  We went on a hunt for numbers in the ROLA and played a fun snowball number game too!

Dress rehearsals start next week so have a lovely weekend and we can’t wait to see the children and their amazing singing voices on Monday!

The Reception Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
