Reception Weekly Blog (20.1.23)

Date: 20th Jan 2023 @ 2:34pm

Time flies when you’re having fun!

We have had a very busy week this week, we arrived at school on Monday ready to learn more songs and dances for our Reception performance.

The children were so excited to bring their teddy bears in for our music session on Tuesday, they showed how well they can move to music, exploring the changing tempo in the song ‘Teddy Bears Picnic’.

We continued our Goldilocks and Three Bears theme this week when we had our very own ‘Porridge Party’ on Wednesday, the children were able to write their own instructions to make porridge pinching the sounds on their ‘Fred Fingers’:

  1. add the porridge.
  2. add the milk.
  3. mix it up.
  4. cook it.
  5. yum yum.

As the children wrote the instructions so well that we were able to follow them to make and enjoy eating incredibly yummy porridge.

On Thursday we practised our catching and throwing skills in outdoor games, we look forward to learning more about target games as we progress through the spring term.

This week we have been learning all about Lunar New Year, and the 12 zodiac animals who each represent a year on the lunar calendar. We read the fascinating tale of ‘The Story of The Zodiac’, a story of kindness, teamwork and competition. We re-enacted the story in our small world play, made colourful lanterns and looked at traditional food, decorations and objects. The children were happy to learn that 2023 is the year of the Rabbit!

We have been inspired by shapes in Reception this week, the children have been busily making pictures using 2D shapes. They are becoming really confident in describing the features of 2D shapes and where we can see them in our school. We have also learned about the eagerly awaited number 10 this week. It really is fantastic to see the children so excited to learn all about these numbers, we wonder if they can find the number 10 at home?

A gentle reminder to all that it is much easier to keep track of books that belong to school if they are read and kept in your child’s book bag, thank you!

Don’t forget to send in any photographs of good news from home. We love to share it with our class.

Have a great weekend everybody,

The Reception Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
