Reception Weekly Blog (20.10.22)

Half-term already!!

On Tuesday, we celebrated St. Luke’s Day with a captivating service held by Reverend Matt, we walked there with our buddies and had great fun playing eye-spy on the way.

Wednesday saw us come to the end of our ‘wax resist autumn leaf’ project, where the children used metallic wax crayons to draw their leaf, they used the Brusho paints to design their own autumnal design. We have been blown away by the children’s patience and perseverance during this art project. Learning that everything we may see as a mistake can actually turn into art!

This week the children have been busy helping their teachers sort vegetables, we re-read the story of ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ and worked as a team to sort them as to whether they grow above, below or on the ground. Each of the children then helped to prepare the vegetables to make our very own soup, they used lots of words to describe how the veg felt and smelt. We talked about how healthy vegetables are, and most of the children had a try of the delicious soup, with many children asking for a second helping! We enjoyed a cup of soup with some tasty fresh bread.

Please continue to practise the speed sounds we have learnt so far, if you would like to continue reading CVC words over the break, you can sign up (for free) on the Oxford Owl website by following this link: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/user/sign_up.html and selecting ‘parent’. Here you will find an eBook library. We would recommend ‘sound blending book 1’.

See you at the disco for some dancing fun!

We hope you have a fantastic break, recharge those batteries ready for a another busy few weeks as we embrace our new topic of ‘fire’!

Take care all,

The Reception Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
