Reception Weekly Blog (17.3.23)

Date: 17th Mar 2023 @ 11:33am

A short, but fun-filled week in Reception!

In RE, we are continuing to explore the Holy Week of Easter, and told the story of Palm Sunday. We spoke about Jesus’s emotions in the story and the children’s own experiences of emotions. The children then used their scissor skills to create paper palm leaves and re-enacted the scene from the story where Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey.

As we begin to learn about Spring, the children are each going to create a piece of art to show their unique version of a duckling against a water-coloured background. This week, we have been exploring colour mixing, and experimenting with cardboard ‘printmaking’ to show how we might create a feeling of texture within the duckling feathers on the page.

We absolutely loved wearing red to fundraise for Comic Relief 2023. The children all listened beautifully and showed empathy as we explained how the money raised is used to transform lives in the UK and around the world.

In maths this week, the children were introduced to number 14 and had lots of fun using our “fast eyes” to instantly say the number of dots without counting (subitising). Next week, the children can use their subitising skills to explore equal amounts which will help them gain understanding as we begin to delve into doubles, halving and sharing.

Have a brilliant weekend everyone. The Reception Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
