Reception Weekly Blog (17.11.23)

What a lovely week we have had, thinking of others!

We kicked off ‘anti-bullying week’ by wearing our odd socks on Monday, for our Reception children this means talking about kindness. It has been so heart-warming to hear all of their ideas about how we could be a good friend and what we can do if someone is having a tricky day or need a friend to play with. We have discussed that just because this week is dedicated to anti-bullying we should try our very best to be kind and make the right choices every day.

In RE this term, we are beginning to understand that for Christian people, Christmas is a celebration of Jesus’ birthday. On Monday, Reception were delighted to welcome a very special visitor to our classroom – a baby! We read the Nativity story from our children’s Bible, and spoke about how all babies change the world and life of people around them, and so did Jesus. Thank you to Miss Hesketh for taking the time to visit us at school. The children were so respectful and caring towards our special visitor, and loved sharing stories of special babies in their own lives.

In Maths this week, we are learning to show eight in many ways, and have begun to explore the concept of ‘wholes’ and ‘parts’. We investigated how our own bodies are made up of smaller parts and found out that a whole is always bigger than its parts! This skill of ‘de-composing’ will build firm foundations for later calculation of number bonds. At home, why not create a simple jigsaw puzzle with your child using paper and scissors - “have we got all the parts we need to complete the whole puzzle?”

In DT, our hibernation homes for ‘Prickles the Hedgehog’ are looking very cosy! The children have each completed their design on paper, and have begun to add natural resources to the external components of their boxes.

The children looked fantastic in their yellow, mufti, and spots on Friday, we loved every minute of the fun we had in Reception: baking and enjoying Pudsey cookies, Pudsey Yoga and even a Pudsey dance party!

Have a great weekend everybody.

The Reception Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
