Reception Weekly Blog (16.12.22)

Date: 16th Dec 2022 @ 3:26pm

Another busy week in Reception!

Brrrr! It’s been a cold one this week and Reception have fully embraced the ice which had covered our ROLA! The children were fascinated by the transformation and it has been wonderful to see and hear so many learning opportunities as children explored the ice, and investigated its properties.

On Monday, the children were shocked to learn that our class penguins had also frozen in the ice. The children acted quickly to work out how to free the penguins! We overheard lots of fantastic vocabulary and observed super team work. Well done Reception!

In Maths this week, we looked at units of ‘time’ in terms of night and day. We read the story ‘Night Monkey, Day Monkey’ by Julia Donaldson and talked about the differences between the things which we do in the day and those that happen at night. We also looked at the concept of ‘wholes’ and ‘parts’ by singing ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’ as we begin to understand that whole things are often made up of smaller parts and that a whole is, therefore, bigger than its parts.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to The Brindley Theatre to watch ‘Santa Saves Christmas’ and what a brilliant trip it was. The show was super and our children were fabulous from the minute we left school to our return, with marvellous manners when they met Santa. Take a look at the pictures below.

Have a wonderful weekend and don’t forget to share your good news with us by emailing reception@slf.sefton.school

The Reception Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
