End of term already!

Wow! Where has the time gone? Reception have had another amazing half term of learning through play and enjoying lots of new experiences. The children have been fascinated to see the frogspawn eggs have started to hatch. We have magnifying glasses at the ready to spot the very small, very wriggly tadpoles!

Continuing with all things Spring this week, Reception took part in a beautiful and warm Spring Walk around our school – teaming up with a perfect partner to spot 9 different signs of Spring.

In Maths, we are deepening our understanding of numbers 0 – 16: exploring 10 frames, towers of cubes, number bonds to 10, and number bingo! The children are becoming more skilled in understanding the full 10s and the part of a 10, for example 14 is one full ten and one four. Next term, we will continue to practice and consolidate these key skills by introducing bead strings and Rekenreks (counting frames)!

On Tuesday we were treated to a performance of the musical ‘Rock Bottom’ by our super talented Year 5’s. Reception were brilliant spectators clapping and singing along for the full show. On Wednesday we explored our own ‘body percussion’ – stamping our feet and patting our cheeks to play ‘pass the sound’ around a circle. Lots of very imaginative and elaborate rhythms were created!

We have been learning all about the Christian story of Easter this week. The children showed great empathy when we spoke of Judas and how his betrayal affected Jesus. On Thursday, Reception enjoyed a visit to Church for a captivating Easter service led by Rev. Matt and Year 4. The children were so respectful and sang beautifully during all of the hymns. Well done Reception!

We would like to thank you for your ongoing support this year. We hope you have a fantastic break, and recharge those batteries ready for a fun-filled Summer term!

Take care all,

The Reception Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
