Reception Weekly Blog 14.1.22

Wow – what a brilliant week it has been!

We have introduced the concept of ‘more’ and ‘fewer’ than in maths this week, comparing quantities and using a 1-10 number line. It is such fun learning new mathematical terms such as ‘fewer’ and what they mean in detail. To help your child learn at home you could use words such as ‘more’, ‘fewer’ and ‘less than’ in discussion. Which has more/fewer? How do you know? The children are so eager to learn and are showing fantastic progress.

Continuing our topic of "Goldilocks and The Three Bears", on Monday we became artists and created our very own finger puppets using card, watercolour paints, crayons and collage. The finished puppets are so unique, and will be used by the children to share stories, act out dialogue and explore drama!

On Tuesday, during R.E. we explored the question ‘Where do you feel safe and why?’ The children all shared such thoughtful and individual responses with the class, which really got us thinking… what can we do as a class to help one another and keep each other safe. We are always so amazed at how kind and thoughtful the children can be.

On Wednesday, we put on our dancing shoes and danced with our teddy bears, changing our movements to match the ‘tempo’ and ‘pitch’ of the song “Teddy Bear’s Picnic”. We are learning new words every day!

We have had a busy week practising songs for our performance of “Hats Off!” on Friday 11th February. We really hope to see you there in person.

We are looking forward to exploring a new traditional tale next week – 'The Three Little Pigs'. If your child has an alternative version of the tale, we would love to share it with each class.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone.

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
