Reception Weekly Blog (14.10.22)

Date: 14th Oct 2022 @ 2:26pm

5 weeks of primary school already and look how much we have achieved!

We have been inspired by autumn over the last few weeks in Reception. We have enjoyed collecting lots of different leaves and began our first observational drawings in our sketchbooks. The children have enjoyed leaf rubbing with wax crayons and creating ‘hedgehogs’ out of leaves.

On Tuesday, we had our first indoor PE session where the children amazed us with their participation in Yoga. We practised lots of poses which will help us develop our core strength and balance. The children adapted well to another change in routine, please continue to offer lots of opportunities to further skills at home e.g. putting on jumpers and coats.

We went for a listening walk on Tuesday around our school to see what different sounds we could hear. We were amazed when we got back to our classroom to share all that we heard, including a helicopter and trumpets.

On Thursday we strengthened our fine motor skills and gross motor skills in outdoor games. The children took on the challenge of ‘egg collectors’, each child had a peg and had to collect an egg (bean bag) and take it back to their team. We have put some examples on the blog to help you practise fine motor skills at home:

  • Make playdough together, twist, roll, squeeze and pinch
  • Mark making in shaving foam or sand
  • Thread beads onto pipe cleaners
  • Cut out shapes using cardboard and pinch pegs onto it.

Our learning next week will continue to be based on the story ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ by Vivian French. We will sort and group vegetables, make and enjoy soup and even plant some of our own before the weather gets too cold.

On Tuesday next week, we will walk to church and celebrate St. Luke’s Day with our buddies and Reverend Matt. Please remember to bring a waterproof coat each day.

We can’t wait to see your good news slips on Monday. Maybe you have found or made one of our new sounds? If you have any pictures you would like to share with us please send them to reception@slf.sefton.school

Have a great weekend everyone,

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
