Reception Weekly Blog 13.1.23

Date: 12th Jan 2023 @ 8:04pm

This week has been just right!

We have loved learning all about Goldilocks and The Three Bears, the children have blown us away with their contributions during class discussion. We have read lots of different versions of the traditional tale and have enjoyed spotting all the similarities and differences.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed the role-play cottage in the reception setting, taking on the roles of Daddy Bear, Mummy Bear and Baby Bear and acting out the story. We have spent lots of time talking about the choices Goldilocks made and whether these were the right/wrong choices and how we could help her make better ones. This lead us nicely onto talking about ‘New Year’s Resolutions’ and what we could promise to try and do as we enter a brand-new year.  There were some lovely, thoughtful ideas and we are very proud of the children for how well they took part in this activity.

Next week we are looking forward to going shopping and creating a shopping list for porridge ingredients and tasting it with different toppings.

During maths this week we have been exploring 2D shapes and talking about what makes them special. The children have learnt about the corners and sides that circle, squares, triangles and rectangles have and they now know that some have straight sides and some have sides that curve. We would love to hear about the 2D shapes you can find at home or when you’re out and about over the weekend on a good news slip.

I’m sure the children have been singing lots of songs from our performance at home and showing you all of the dances that we have been practising. Not long now until we get to show you in person, please check school spider for further details.

Next week we will be talking about Lunar New Year, which will be celebrated on Sunday 22nd January 2023. We look forward to exploring this topic further within our play when we discover the ways in which we can celebrate.

Have a great weekend everyone,
The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
