Reception Weekly Blog (10.11.23)

Another fantastic week here in Reception!

We have been learning all about the Hindu festival, Diwali this week. We thought about the differences and similarities between celebrations, and spoke about the religion Hinduism for the first time. The children really enjoyed creating a traditional diya lamp made using salt dough. They carefully measured out each ingredient following a simple recipe. Well done Reception!

It was so exciting to start learning about the number 7 this week, as well as practising our subitising skills (fast eyes…don’t count, see the amount!) The children have loved looking at all the different ways we can make 7, using our fingers, on a ten frame, 7 days of the week, finding 7 on a clock. If you find anything out about number 7 over the weekend, let us know in a good news e-mail!

We enjoyed watching a fantastic Remembrance Day service, performed by our Year 6 friends on Friday, we sat beautifully and observed two minutes silence to commemorate those who have helped to keep us safe. The children have even enjoyed creating their own poppies which we wore to the service with pride.

We look forward to next week as we begin talking to the children about our fundraising for Children in Need and explaining that all children should be able to play, be safe, be happy, healthy and cared for.

A date for the diary… We have booked tickets to watch the fantastic theatrical performance of The Gruffalo’s Child at The Atkinson Theatre, Southport on Wednesday 6th March 2024. More information will be sent out via Spider in the new year.

Have a lovely weekend 😊

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
