Reception Blog Week ending Friday 28th May 2021

Week ending Friday 28th May 2021

Inspired by our African theme and another story by Eileen Browne, ‘Handa’s Hen’, the children have explored the African Djembe and dundun drums and had a turn of keeping a steady beat. They have learnt an African song and explored some African artefacts, fabrics and paintings.

The children have tried some fruits from the story of ‘Handa’s Surprise’ – pineapple, mango, avocado, oranges, as well as printing with some, to create their own Handa’s basket with 15 fruits inside.

On Thursday in our game session the children had an individual ‘speed stacker’ competition and outdoors we had a team relay using the large speed stackers. Well done to everyone for demonstrating your fantastic team work skills.

In maths we have been weighing using a two-pan balance. The children have been using the language of weighing – heavier and lighter, and putting fruits in order from heaviest to lightest. Talk about, and explore things to do with weight over the holidays.

Your child will have brought home their sunflower, and pea recently, as well as a packet of sunflower seeds. Please plant them outside, and keep an eye on how they grow. We would love to see photos of how they are getting on. You can send them to the Reception email address.

Please be reminded that as the weather gets warmer, children may wear their school shorts on our game’s day (Monday and Thursday).

Have a lovely half term holiday, and we look forward to hearing all about it from the children, on our return.

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
