This week has seemed pretty long after the recent shorter ones and we all deserve the weekend to rest and prepare for an even busier one next week. On Wednesaday, we will be off to York for our Y5 residential and our all beyond excited!

In readiness for our geography field work in York, we journeyed closer to home on Wednesday and into Formby village. There, we conducted questionaires and traffic/pedestrian & buiding use surveys. Interviewing the general public was extremely fun and even though we were nervous to begin with, we soon realised how friendly the residents and visitors to Formby are. Once we had collated our results, we spent some relaxing time at the pool gardens sketching the natural environment around us. We will be doing a similar thing next week in York before comparing the results on our return to school after half term.

This week we have been continuing to bulld up our remixing of the song 'somewhere over rhe rainbow' by choosing a fragment of the song and looping it over a drum based backbeat. We were all imopressed with our creations and are looking forward to adding in more effects to our remixes.

In writing, we have taken all we know about the red squirrel from previous research and created a non chronological information text all about our furry friends from the pinewoods. We also developed our sketching and other art skills when we learnt how to draw a red squirrel.

In maths, we have now completed our unit on translation and reflection of polygons and enjoyed using the mirrors to check that we had used the method of reflection correcly.

In dance, we are continuing with our British Values theme and recapped our 8 count motiffs before working on ideas for our own individual  32 count movement sequence, thinking about, levels, pathways and movement. The dance will be performed to the James Bond theme tune!

Enjoy your weekend and we look forward to seeing you all back at school on Monday.

Many thanks,

The Year 5 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
