Year 6 Weekly Blog 11.9.26

Date: 11th Sep 2026 @ 8:18am

Another great week in Year 6 has come to an end. The children have been enthused and engaged to continue looking at the life of Olaudah Equiano, helping to write a biography about him in the process. The children have begun to complete some research on other influential figures in order to compose their own biographies in the following days. We have delved into place value in maths, looking at comparing and ordering integers based on place value, as well as rounding them.

In science, we have started to look at adaptations of animals and how this helps them to survive in different environments, with the children explaining which adaptations would best help an animal. We have started to look at activism in art, thinking about what issues in the world we are passionate about and how we can challenge these ideas.

Our week was topped with a visit from Mrs Ryan from Range High School, along with two ex-St Luke's pupils, who came to meet the children and invite them to visit Range next Wednesday for their open evenings. You should have recieved a booklet about this, as well as reminders to fill out High School Application forms by October 31st 2026.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
