Year 6 Blog 9.1.26

Date: 9th Jan 2026 @ 3:21pm

The children have returned excellently to school after a brilliant break and have been eager to get back to where they left off in December. We have started to look at out new topic of Evolution, focussing in on Charles Darwin and the exploration which led to his discovery and theory of evolution. We have looked at the various biomes which we have in the world, in preparation for designing our own islands to explore, like Darwin in the Galapagos Islands.

In maths we have started to look at decimals, focussing in on identifying the value of each digit of a number, before rounding, adding and subtracting decimals fo various lengths. In PE we have started to recap our learning of the Ancient Greeks in order to created a dance routine showing their lifestyles, starting with the Olympic games. We have started to look at playgrounds in DT (what equipment they contain and how are they produced) in preparation for designing and creating our own model playground later on in the half-term.

Don't forget about the CGP book offer which school are currently running : it could save you a lot and it is good practise for the children.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
