Year 6 Blog 8.5.26

This week in Year 6 has been full of exciting learning, teamwork and plenty of opportunities to prepare for next week’s SATs in a calm and positive way.
In Science, the children continued their learning about reflection and how light travels by creating their very own periscopes. It was fantastic to see everyone applying their understanding so practically and creatively while exploring how mirrors can help us see around objects.
We also made the most of the pre-summer sunshine by heading outside to complete both Mr C’s Grammar and Arithmetic Orienteering courses. The children worked brilliantly in teams to solve challenges, answer questions and consolidate their learning in a fun and active way ahead of SATs week.
In Maths, we travelled down “Geometry Street” as we recapped and reviewed nets of 3D shapes. The class showed excellent problem-solving skills and resilience while tackling a range of reasoning challenges and investigations.
Our Grammar lessons included an inverted comma masterclass, helping everyone sharpen their punctuation skills, before taking part in Mr Hardman’s new creation, a “Jeopardy Grammar Quiz” — with a twist! The children were given the answers and had to create the questions themselves, leading to lots of thoughtful discussion and plenty of laughter along the way.
We also started looking ahead to our final term together by beginning preparations for our leavers’ music. There was a real sense of excitement as the children reflected on the journey they have shared throughout primary school.
To round off a busy and productive week, Year 6 enjoyed a lovely mindful afternoon of art, giving everyone the chance to relax, regulate and express themselves creatively before the weekend.
We are incredibly proud of the positivity, determination and maturity Year 6 have shown this week and know they are more than ready to give next week their very best effort.
Remember:
SATS don’t measure sports,
SATS don’t measure art,
SATS don’t measure music
Or the kindness in your heart.
SATS don’t see your beauty,
SATS don’t know your worth,
SATS don’t know the reason
You were put upon this Earth.
SATS don’t see your magic,
How you make others smile,
SATS don’t time how quickly
You can run a mile.
SATS don’t hear your laughter,
Or see you’ve come this far,
SATS are just a tiny glimpse
Of who you really are.
So sitting at your table
With your pencil and your test,
Remember SATS aren’t who you are,
Remember you're the best!
