Year 6 Blog 27.2.26

Date: 27th Feb 2026 @ 2:33pm

Year 6 have come back well from their short break to start learning about Enslavement, particularly the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. We have begun to talk about what led to this dark period in British History and have looked at some activists who fought against it. We have started to right a Biography on Martin Luther King Jr with the intention of the children writing their own biography on another important figure in the civil rights movement. In art we have looked at an activist artist and started to note down our ideas of what injustices we can protest around.

We have also begun our novel, Freedom, featuring an enslaved boy, Nat, who has lost his Mother and Sister to another plantation and hopes to get his, and their, freedom by travelling to England. We have discussed what impressions we have about the various characters and the emotions they would feel during these times.

In maths, we have interpreted and drawn various types of graphs, including line graphs, bar charts and pie charts, as well ast looking at how to calculate the mean average of a set of data. In Latin we have started to study Third Group Nouns which do not share the same endings as the other nouns we have studied so far. In RE we have started to look at who actually was Jesus based on the names he is given in the Bible.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
