Year 6 Blog 25.9.26

Date: 25th Sep 2026 @ 3:20pm

This week, the children have reflected upon their writing, editing their biographies and helping their peers to critically evaluate theirs. We have continued to delve into the story of Nathaniel, learning of his escape and putting ourselves in his place to write letters back home and to his friend in London. In PE we have continued to develop our tag rugby skills in preparation for a tournament next week, and in dodgeball we looked at how to increase our chances of catching a ball during matches.

In maths, we have looked at prime and square numbers, before reviewing and recapping long multiplication. In science, we looked at how genes are inherited by offspring, helping us to design some children for the Mr Men and Little Miss characters. In music, we have looked at how many pop songs are formulated and composed some baselines to accompany a drumbeat. In History, we have studied the life of enslaved Africans once they had reached the plantations, focussing in on the defiance and resistence shown by them.

Thank you to all parents who attended the meeting on Wednesday evening; you can find any information on the Year 6 class page if you have misplaced the sheet handed out on the night.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
